No one has so far defined an optimal human diet that is truly healthy, close to nature, and acts as a preventive medication against diseases. Some explore the evolution of mankind and find a similarity between the diet of chimps and human beings. Undoubtedly, the initial generation on earth was vegetarian; slowly, they became the hunters and adopted cooking. Here in this post, I will focus on the role of olives and figs for the human body on an only vegetarian diet. First, I will discuss the importance and role of olives in our diet.

Olives 

Olives are considered one of the most primitive plants on earth. According to the Islamic creed, it is considered good for human health and pronounced as "Mubarak tree" according to the Islamic creed. In Quraan, the  Holy book of Muslims, God has sworn in the name of zatoon, an Arabic word for olives for seven times and stated its usefulness to human health. Moreover, it is also liked by Holy Prophet (PBUH), and he has mentioned it as a remedy for many incurable diseases such as various cancers. It is found in abundance in Muslim states and is part of the diet as well. Today, people are suffering from many incurable diseases that are causing aging and death at the mass level. The man of the present day is suffering from many ailments resulting from depression and the poor diet that a man takes. A poor diet plan causes many stomach and intestine disorders such as gas, loss of appetite, anemia, and gastritis. The growing stomach disorders can be dealt with by adding healthy fruits to our diet, and olives are one of them.

Olives are one of the world's enjoyed food, technically it is classified as a  fruit of the Olea Europea tree. Still, people commonly use it as a zesty vegetable added in salads, poultry dishes, meat, and pizza.
Olives are usually too bitter to eat, and their intrinsic bitterness is reduced by various processing methods. Olives are naturally green, but you can find green and black color olives in the market after processing and treatment. Olives belong to a special group of fruits called drupes which have a pit in the center surrounded by fleshy portions. Drupes common in diet are olives, cherry, mango, apricot, plum & peach. Olives are commonly cultivated in the Mediterranean, Spain, Syria, and in parts of Asia and Africa.

Benefits of Olives: 


  1. Olives contain dozens of health-protective nutrients such as anti-oxidant & anti-inflammatory nutrients. Another nutrient is Hydroxytyrosol that is linked to cancer prevention and prevents bone loss as well. Increased intake of olives in the diet decreases the risk of osteoporosis in people.

Research studies show that mono-saturated fats in olives help to decrease blood pressure, help & protect the respiratory system, nervous system, inflammatory system, musculoskeletal system, and immune system.

Fig is a primitive fruit and commonly found as a dry fruit. They are sweet in taste and grow on the Ficus tree, a mulberry family member. Figs differ in color and texture depending upon their variety. The majority of figs are dried either by processing or by the natural method of drying in sunlight. This sweet, dry fruit can be enjoyed throughout the year. Figs are the world's most powerful food, and their nutritional components make them superb. They are a good source of dietary fiber, potassium, copper, manganese, pantothenic acid, and vitamin B6. Figs also contain many nutrients such as sugar, carbohydrates, soluble and soluble fiber sodium, minerals, vitamins, fatty acids, and amino-acid.
Figs can trace their history back to ancient times with mentions in the Bible, the Holy Quran, and other ancient writings. Figs were cultivated in the Mediterranean and were considered a sacred fruit in ancient Rome. Later on, they were introduced to other parts of the world by Missionaries. Fresh figs are easily perishable. Therefore, they are dried and used as dry fruit. 

Look for rich figs, deep color, tender & plump. They should be free of bruises and should have a mild sweet fragrance. Fully ripened figs contain the most antioxidants. When looking for dried figs, make sure they are relatively soft, free of mold, and have a pleasant smell.

Benefits of Figs: 

  1. Figs are an excellent source of potassium which helps to control blood pressure. Since many people do not eat fruits and vegetables, they may lack potassium because they eat sodium added to processed food. Low intake of potassium with increased intake of sodium would lead to hypertension. Fruits and vegetables provide more minerals such as potassium, magnesium, and calcium. 
  2. An excellent way to lose weight: Figs are a good source of dietary fiber, and fiber-rich foods positively affect weight management.  
  3. Fruit and cereal fiber are helpful and protective against post-menopausal breast cancer. Women having a rich fiber diet have a reduced risk of breast cancer. Fruits richest in fiber include figs, apples, dates, pears, and prunes. 
  4. Figleaves regulate and lower insulin in diabetes. In some parts of the world, fig leaves are part of food, and they have the anti-diabetic properties to reduce the amount of insulin needed by a person who requires insulin injection. 
  5. Figleaves lower the triglyceride level in the blood and also inhibit the growth of certain types of cancer cells. 
  6. Figs improve eyesight and lower the risk of age-related macular degeneration. Daily fruit intake prevents loss of vision in adults as well as in elderly people.
  7. Figs contain a chemical called Psoralens, which protects skin and skin-related diseases. 
  8. Fig is a fruit of paradise and protects your heart, pancreas, bones, inhibits cancer cells and maintains insulin levels in the blood, and controls blood pressure.

    Fig is believed to be indigenous to Western Asia, also found in abundance in the Mediterranean region. It is planted in different parts of the world, and it has many varieties. It is found in warm areas and does not require pollination. Its history is traced to ancient times with mentions in Bible and The Holy Quran. It is rich in fiber and reduces body weight, controls blood pressure, and effectively controls sugar and cancer. The minerals found in figs help protect the bones and stop osteoporosis, as potassium in figs repairs the bones.
